Hakuōki: Shikon Soukyuu (劇場版「薄桜鬼」第二章 士魂蒼宮, Demon of the Fleeting Blossom: Warrior Spirit of the Blue Sky) is the second of a two-part film project that retells the 1st & 2nd seasons, which was released on 8th March, 2014. The main cast from the previous anime projects are returning for the film. Osamu Yamasaki is returning to direct the film, and he is co-writing the film's script with Tsunekiyo Fujisawa. Atsuko Nakajima is returning to adapt Yone Kazuki's original character designs for animation, and she is also serving as chief animation director. Kenji Kawai is taking over for Kô Ôtani for the film's music. Studio DEEN is again animating the film. Aika Yoshioka, the singer for some of the previous anime projects' opening theme songs, will contribute the theme song for the film project.

About
Hakuouki: Shikon Soukyuu focuses on re-telling the story that initially took place in the second season of the anime (Hakuouki: Hekketsuroku - Demon of the Fleeting Blossom: Records of Jade Blood) with noticeable changes and adjustments. The story includes the same characters in a similar setting, however, the perspective changes, some of deaths happen in a different way, and some scenes are cut out. The movie begins with the Shinsengumi being in battle with Kondou and Shinpachi arguing about the situation with people dying in vain, when multiple Rasetsu attack the camp. As the story branches from the original adaptation, Chizuru is led to meet Ryuunosuke and Kosuzu after the Shinsengumi have sailed away. After falling off a cliff she is saved by Kazama who shows her the ruins of the Yukimura village and shares the story of her past. She is then kidnapped by Kaoru and brought to Koudou but then rescued by Heisuke. Having caught up with the Shinsengumi, she reunites with Hijikata, and the story returns to the original direction, but with both Hijikata and Kazama surviving the final battle.
