Hakuōki: Zuisouroku StoryBook is a novel adaptation of the game of the same name which was published in two volumes of A5 size paper publication. These two collections compile the introduction and memorandum of 23 characters. The first volume introduces a recall of incidents as well as the story of Toshizou Hijikata and Souji Okita. The second volume comprises of the stories of the other characters, namely Heisuke Toudou, Hajime Saitou, Isami Kondou, Sanosuke Harada, Keisuke Sannan, Shinpachi Nagakura, Susumu Yamazaki and Chikage Kazama. Different branch points of the story, which are filled with emotion and danger, are also explored. The day-to-day life of the Shinsengumi and Chizuru Yukimura are part of the main story line as she forms her bonds with all the Shinsengumi captains.
The book consists of 253 pages and contains a big number of illustrations. The book is only available in Japan and in Japanese, it is not officially distributed anywhere else in the world and is not translated to any other languages. However, it is possible to purchase the book in Japanese as a second-hand item on eBay and other marketplaces. Additionally, it is possible to find a few Hakuōki: Zuisouroku ArtBooks which contain a variety of illustrations with all the characters of the series (which can be found in character galleries).
