Threat of danger lingers, but she is suddenly saved by none other than the Shinsengumi.

After their encounter, Chizuru lives with the men of the Shinsengumi to fulfill their common goal: seeking out her missing father. The captains are wary at first, unsure if she is a friend or a foe, so they take turns to keep watch over her while she is locked in her room, but they quickly realize that she poses no threat to their reputation and secrets, so they let her off the hook and entrust her with domestic chores. While Chizuru lives with the Shinsengumi, she starts to understand the warriors a lot more and becomes closer to the chosen romantic interest.

However, she slowly uncovers the Shinsengumi's dark secret: The Furies. Saitou Hajime

After the war the Aizu Domain, that Saitou was allied with, was exiled to Tonami, the northernmost prefecture of Honshu. Over 3 years later, Chizuru and Saitou live a peaceful life in Tonami as a married couple. Saitou brings Chizuru to see cherry blossoms and compares them to a life of samurai, Chizuru asks if he still wants to disappear like the fleeting sakura petals, but he promises to never use the Rasetsu power again because he does not wish to die and leave Chizuru. Later, he announces that he was invited to be an Aizu representative in a new organization in the Ministry of Interior that is meant to be a police department and do a similar job to what the Shinsengumi once were tasked with. Additionally, he is worried about Chizuru's health, but Chizuru reveals that she is not sick, she is pregnant. Saitou is astonished but happy, because, apparently, they tried to conceive a baby for a while but failed. Eventually, Hajime suggests changing the way they address each other to something more intimate, and Chizuru asks him to call her "dear".

Toudou Heisuke

3 years after the war ended, Chizuru and Heisuke live in the abandoned Yukimura village because of the magical water that suppresses the Rasetsu corruption. Chizuru dreams of her father still wondering what made him start researching Ochimizu but he never tells her even in her dreams. When Heisuke learns that Chizuru is having nightmares, he apologizes for never finding her father and expresses a wish to go look for him, however, due to his body's weakness, he cannot leave. Despite the condition, he does not regret taking Ochimizu in the past as otherwise he would have died. Chizuru still does not know of her father's fate but hopes that he is alive, and Heisuke supports her despite the role Koudou played in his own life.

Heisuke's cheerful and adventurous personality does not change as he challenges himself to catch the biggest fish in a stream and make Chizuru fall in love with him all over again. Sen and Kimigiku visit them with the news of the Shinsengumi and their allies being pardoned by the new government and no longer treated as rebels. Additionally, Kimigiku informs them that Nagakura and Saitou are still alive. As for the bad news, Sen reveals that Kazama sent her a letter claiming to have found Koudou and then she gives the letter to Chizuru to read for herself. In the letter, Kazama says that he killed Koudou with his own hands, and Chizuru would never see him again. When the demons leave, Heisuke confesses that he is conflicted about Koudou because he made him a Rasetsu but at the same time granted him a future with Chizuru. Heisuke feels connected to everyone else because of Koudou and eventually proposes to Chizuru.

Harada Sanosuke

After Harada and Chizuru left Japan and settled in a secluded location in an unknown country, they got married and had a son named Shigeru. Three years later, despite struggling with the language barrier, they have settled down, Sanosuke earns his living by hunting, maintaining roads and fixing buildings. One day, they learn about a stranger who appeared the other night speaking a different language, and Sanosuke volunteers to guard the village. Just as he declines Chizuru's guess that the man might be Japanese, Shiranui appears to confirm the theory. According to him, he was sent by Sen to check on Sanosuke and Chizuru. Shiranui retells what happened during the war in the last 3 years and announces that the Shinsengumi members and their allies have been pardoned and are no longer prosecuted. When it is time to leave, Shiranui invites Harada and Chizuru back to Japan and confesses his attachment to them.

Talking tete-a-tete with Chizuru, Sanosuke admits that he was worried their son would be ashamed of his parents who were criminals and defied the Meiji government, but now his worries have been lifted. He hugs both Chizuru and Shigeru and promises to protect them.

Nagakura Shinpachi

At the end of the war, Shinpachi and Chizuru ended up living in Ezo, which was under the direct control of the Matsumae clan that Shinpachi used to belong to. A few years later, they got married and moved to Otaru, a freezing cold region of Hokkaido. One day, they receive a letter from the Matsumae clan, which states that a pardon has been granted to those who fought against the SatChō forces, and the Shinsengumi have been forgiven, as well. Shinpachi invites Chizuru to go to Hakodate. On the way there, he explains his reason to live so far away, which is to hide Chizuru from the new government. He also confesses to hoping that he might one day visit Hakodate, where Hijikata and others fought to the bitter end, if he decided to live in Hokkaido, however, if he chose to live in Matsumae, he would be too close to Hakodate and would have been torn about whether to visit the town or not, hence why he decided to live in Otaru instead.

While walking around Goryoukaku, Shinpachi and Chizuru approach a building that used to be where Hijikata and others fought and is now soon to be demolished. They explore the castle further and stumble upon a sakura tree, so they sit under it and pour some saké. Shinpachi apologizes to Hijikata for coming so late, and the blowing wind seems to respond with Hijikata's voice. Shinpachi keeps wondering out loud about what would have happened if he stayed and fought with the Shinsengumi until the end, but he does not consider his decision to leave to be wrong, even though he wishes he had spent more time with his deceased friends. He promises to go see them one day, but for now he has things to do.
