Sanosuke Harada (原田左之助 Harada Sanosuke) is a PE teacher at Hakuou Academy. He used to go to the same university as Shinpachi Nagakura, and now the two live in the same apartment.
Appearance
Harada is a very tall man with shoulder-length red hair and yellow eyes. Despite being a PE teacher, he always wears classic striped dark-gray trousers and a gray shirt with a maroon tie.
Personality
Harada's frank personality makes him popular with the students, and he is also trusted by teachers, as he is always willing to listen to Hijikata's problems and scold Nagakura for his extravagant spending. Harada deeply cares about his students and tries to help with their educational or personal struggles.

Harada has his own route in the game which allows players to experience school romance between him and Chizuru (the protagonist).
Anime OVA
In the short OVA, Harada is only shown briefly when he was caught by Hijikata and scolded for running in the hallway, and later he also appears to explain to Chizuru why all the boys are in the gym, and that her own medical examination, as she is the only girl, is happening in Shimabara High School.

Harada is a prominent part of the main group both in the 1864 flashbacks and in the 2015 time. During the flashback, he is among the Shinsengumi members who storm an inn in order to save Chizuru. He takes the rear exit to cut off the enemy's retreat. In the present day, Harada-sensei, a teacher at the Hakuou Academy, stops Ryuunosuke in the school hallway and warns him about the punishment for students with low grades, explaining that he will not be able to protect him any longer even as his class teacher. When Ryuunosuke runs away scared, Harada-sensei praises Chizuru's results and reassures her that she will be fine during the exams.
In Episode 2, after the exam in Harada's classroom is over, he moves to the teachers' room where Shinpachi comes in a very good Friday mood, but Harada reminds his colleague that he has tons of papers to grade. Eventually, Harada agrees to go partying but insists on splitting the bill. Later, when Shinpachi and Harada are busy grading papers, and Shinpachi asks Itou to help since he is not busy. Itou attempts to joke it off claiming he is an art teacher, but Sano threatens to report him to Kondou and Hijikata for goofing around the whole exam period.
In Episode 3, as the class teacher for 1-1, Harada oversees the process of brainstorming ideas for the upcoming school festival. His class comes up with a maid café plan, as the only girl in the school studies with them, so Harada-sensei meets with Chizuru to praise her success in studying and also to make sure she is okay with the maid café idea.
In Episode 4, Harada is part of the 1864 flashback once again, and in 2015 he is seen talking to Chizuru and advising her to run the maid café's outfit design by Hijikata-sensei, who is the head of the Disciplinary Committee. Later, he helps Chizuru bring shopping bags with things needed for the maid outfit and interior decorations of the café. He trips and drops the bags, and they headbutt each other while trying to collect the stuff from the ground. At some point, Harada-sensei stumbles upon Hijikata-sensei who gets annoyed learning that his colleague went shopping with Chizuru. Harada-sensei notices Hijikata-sensei's feelings and tries to explain that he did it as a teacher, and then teases Hijikata-sensei that he is not talking strictly from an education point of view.
At the end of Episode 4 and further into Episode 5, Harada-sensei is first to learn about Chizuru's abduction, so he calls Hijikata-sensei, and they gather more people for the rescue, which aligns with the 1864 flashback's version of events. As the group enters the warehouse where Chizuru is held by delinquents, Harada-sensei covers the exit. They all take swords and Harada makes a remark that he would want Okita to bring him a spear instead.
In 2015's version, Harada-sensei succeeds in saving Chizuru's life by kicking the knife out of the enemy's hand. When her safety is secured, the whole group returns to school, and Harada is among those who hear her cry in the teachers' room.
While checking everyone's attendance in Episode 6, Harada-sensei notices that Yukimura is absent, so he later catches Hijikata-sensei in the corridor informing him of his intention to visit Yukimura's home as her teacher. However, he cannot easily do so as his class is arguing over who should be Yukimura's substitute, which Hijikata-sensei sees as a hint to visit her by himself.
Next morning, while everyone runs to school, Harada-sensei comes to the gate wearing an apron. He and all the others smile hearing Chizuru's gratitude and the fact that she is happy to have met them all.
