Shintarō Nakaoka (中岡 慎太郎 Nakaoka Shintarou) is a support character that first appeared in Kyoto Winds and Edo Blossoms (does not appear in the anime). He is a strong swordsman and a close associate of Sakamoto Ryōma in the movement to overthrow the Tokugawa shogunate.
Shintarou is based on the historical Nakaoka Shintarō.
Personality
Nakaoka is brusque, down-to-earth, diligent, and dedicated to his work. Often, this clashes with his friend Sakamoto's more relaxed attitude toward their shared cause. Eventually, his dogged perseverance is corrupted into a willingness to achieve his ends by any means necessary.
In Hakuōki: Kyoto Winds
Nakaoka appears exclusively on Sakamoto's route and is not mentioned on other routes. He is a close friend of Sakamoto who is turned into a Rasetsu alongside him on the night of his assassination.
In Hakuōki: Edo Blossoms
Nakaoka appears exclusively on Sakamoto's route due to his assassination in all others as of Kyoto Winds. After having been turned into a Rasetsu, he joins Kaoru and Koudou in creating a Rasetsu army.
